Invited by the Coffee with Science and Oceans Week at USP, a first open virtual lecture was offered, disseminating new reflections and results from the GULLS project (FAPESP/Belmont Forum). Transmitted in the Youtube channel to over 400 participants live, and a record of audience and views, Mary Gasalla presented the conference entitled:  “Shall we talk about social vulnerability? Climate change and fishing communities ”.

In her speech, the professor presented a developed methodology to estimate social vulnerability indexes in the context of the GULLS project, and showed the interesting results of Martins and Gasalla (2020) study, and some parallels with vulnerability in the face of Covid-19.

The lessons that the study on social vulnerability of fishing communities to climate change teach us is valid also for the current situation that we live with the pandemic.
